My Vote for Best Superbowl Ad: "So God Made a Farmer"

Like so many others, I watched the Superbowl today.  I was cheering for the San Francisco 49ers, because I live in California, and also because my son-in-law is an avid fan of that team.  But, I don't understand football very well.  I constantly have to ask my husband what's happening and who has possession of the ball.  Although Jim has explained them often, I can never grasp what "downs" mean.

While the game of football may be incomprehensible to me, I can understand the commercials.  I look forward to viewing creative and humorous ads. This year the first few commercials aired were, in my opinion, disgusting.  I guess they will be memorable for their awfulness.  But later, some ads began to appeal to me.

The one I most liked was the Dodge Ram commercial about God making farmers.  There are no fancy special effects.  It is touching in its simplicity and directness.  So, I'm sharing it with you for your enjoyment.

  1. This is a surprisingly nice ad, particularly for the Superbowl.

  2. A most unusual commercial. And one that presumes the viewers' intelligence and their acquaintance with Genesis 1.

I must confess that my interest in the Superbowl is zero.(I'm Irish and live in the Philippines). I've been to a couple of games in the USA but could never figure out why the game is called 'football' or why a touchdown is called such when it isn't. In rugby, which bears some similarities to your game, the touchdown is known as a 'try'. The player's hand(s) must be on the ball as he touches it down behind the line.

The coaches of both teams, apart from the unique fact of being brothers, seem to be two very fine Catholic men, God bless them.
