New Year Resolutions: Silence, Yes; Procrastination, No

I give myself the entire month of January to ponder what resolutions to make for the New Year.  I wrote about that here and here.  It took longer than I expected to find what I think will be good resolutions for me.  I have settled on just two, one positive and one negative.

Silence

Like everyone else, I live in a noisy world.  So, as an antidote to the incessant noise, I intend to spend a half hour each day sitting silently.  Perhaps the LORD will be able to get a word in edgewise.

Procrastination

Psychologists say procrastination is about putting off high-priority tasks with those of a lower-priority.  I have gotten very good at doing that during my retirement.  So, I will work on eliminating this avoidance behavior.  Who knows?  Perhaps as I improve in this area I will become a more productive blogger.

  1. I admire you for those resolutions. It's funny, some could argue that your 1/2 hour of silence is procrastination but it most certainly isn't. Good luck with these, I think we will all benefit from the wisdom that you will glean.

  2. I hadn't looked at silence that way, Andie, but you have a point. I am a Lay Carmelite and part of our way of life is to cultivate silence as a means of opening ourselves to contemplation. So, it's kind of a duty for me.
